The Washington Commanders have undergone a lot of changes over the last 24 hours. Dan Quinn fired defensive coordinator Joe Whitt and offensive line coach Bobby Johnson. Most notably, though, offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury was also let go.
"Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is leaving the organization to pursue other opportunities," Adam Schefter reports. "Kingsbury and HC Dan Quinn met today, and agreed to mutually part ways."
And while Kingsbury is gone, Jordan Schultz reports that this may have been a decision that went above Dan Quinn.
"Part of the issue the Commanders have had in the building is the front office meddling with the coaching staff on personnel and which players to use — an ongoing problem dating back to 2024 when they were having success," Schultz reports on X. "With the team struggling this year, it reached new heights and there were notable disagreements. Moreover, I have not gotten the impression Dan Quinn wanted to move on from his coordinators."
Schultz adds that a source paints a pretty rough picture of what is going on inside the building in Washington.
"'There’s a lot of sh*t going on there,'” a source tells Schultz.
So while everyone initially pointed the finger at Quinn for making a questionable decision, it sounds like general manager Adam Peters and the front office could be the ones to look at in terms of why this decision was made. Regardless, the Commanders are now left needing to hire two new coordinators, and they had better knock both out of the park if they want to find anything close to the success they had in 2024.
