Jayden Daniels aims to end decades of Commanders’ misery at Lambeau image

Thursday Night Football sets up a battle with plenty of storylines as the Washington Commanders visit the Green Bay Packers under the lights at Lambeau Field. Both teams are 1-0, but Washington is carrying extra baggage into this one: the franchise hasn’t won in Green Bay since 1988. That’s a drought spanning 37 years, and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has a chance to finally erase it.

The Commanders have seen the Packers plenty of times since that last win in Wisconsin, including playoff battles in the 70s and 2010s, but victories have only come at home. Their most recent triumph in the series was in 2022 at FedExField. On the road, though, Lambeau has remained a house of horrors.

These two teams are different

This matchup features a sharp contrast in roster makeup. Washington enters the season with the oldest roster in the league, while Green Bay is rolling out the youngest. That experience-versus-youth dynamic will be on display in primetime.

Daniels looked poised in his NFL debut, throwing for 233 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 68 more in a win over the Giants. Rookie back Jacory Croskey-Merritt added 82 yards and a score, while Deebo Samuel gave Washington another dimension with a 77-yard receiving day and a rushing touchdown.

Green Bay’s opener against the Lions was more about efficiency and defense. Jordan Love connected on 16 of 22 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns, leaning on a unit that kept Detroit out of rhythm all afternoon.

Lambeau spotlight

The Packers hold an edge in the all-time series at 22–17–1, but the venue has been the biggest factor. Washington hasn’t left Lambeau happy in a very long time and Thursday’s matchup offers a rare chance for a clean slate.

Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime Video.
