Commanders offer very different injury updates on Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin image

The Washington Commanders have two key offensive players to keep an eye on this week, as quarterback Jayden Daniels and wide receiver Terry McLaurin are both dealing with injuries.

Daniels suffered a knee injury in Week 2 that kept him out of Week 3, and McLaurin is dealing with a quadriceps issue that he came down with last Sunday, leaving his status up in the air for Week 4.

On Wednesday, head coach Dan Quinn had good news on Daniels, but bad news on McLaurin.

Jayden Daniels injury update

Quinn revealed that Daniels will return to practice on Wednesday after not taking part at all last week. The Commanders head coach noted that Daniels would be limited, but that's still a good sign for his chances of playing in Week 4.

"He is doing everything you possibly can to get there," Quinn said of Daniels, per The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala.

Another good sign for Daniels is the fact that he will address the media after practice, something he didn't do last Wednesday.

Terry McLaurin injury update

As for McLaurin, Quinn revealed that the veteran wideout will not take part in practice on Wednesday and Friday is the deadline to make a decision on him.

On Tuesday, it was reported that McLaurin was seeking a second opinion on his injury, but Quinn quelled concerns about that by calling the approach "normal."

What happens if Daniels and McLaurin are out?

If Daniels is forced to sit, Marcus Mariota will get the start once again. The Oregon product played well in Week 3, completing 16-of-22 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown while also adding six carries for 40 yards and another score.

If McLaurin is sidelined, Deebo Samuel will become the team's No. 1 wide receiver. Samuel has been much better than expected this season.

Other receivers such as Chris Moore, Luke McCaffrey and Noah Brown could get an extra push with McLaurin sidelined, although Brown's status is up in the air because of an injury.
