The Tennessee Titans are back in the market for a new head coach and will begin the process of finding that guy once the season ends.

Tennessee struck out badly with former head coach Brian Callahan, who took over for Mike Vrabel and was clearly in way over his head.

With a young quarterback to develop in Cam Ward and a new stadium opening in 2027, the Titans simply cannot screw this up. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee they won't given the several missteps of this franchise over the years.

If the Titans want an experienced, steady hand who can also develop a quarterback as their next head coach, they should consider former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.

According to Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr, McCarthy is considered by some around the league as the early front-runner for Tennessee's vacancy.

"McCarthy, 62, is viewed by some as an early front-runner for the Titans’ vacancy given his experience at the quarterback position and the Titans needing to maximize 2025 No. 1 pick Cam Ward. Though there are some conflicting opinions emerging that Tennessee may value a younger voice in the building," Orr wrote.

There is still a long way to go in the Titans' search, and the latter part of Orr's report suggests McCarthy isn't a locked-in favorite by any means, so don't go writing his name in pen for the Titans' job just yet.

While McCarthy isn't the sexy name some Titans fans might want, he wouldn't be a terrible hire and suggesting him as an early front-runner makes sense.

After all, he's an offensive-minded coach who can help develop Ward and he has both playoff and Super Bowl experience. McCarthy is also capable of fixing a Titans culture that is absolutely broken right now.

After getting fired by the Packers during the 2018 season, McCarthy landed with the Cowboys in 2019. He led Dallas to three 12-win seasons in five years and posted a 49-35 record overall.

In all, McCarthy boasts a record of 174-112 in the regular season and an 11-11 mark in the playoffs. He also has one Super Bowl ring.

The Titans have already tried their hand with a young, first-time head coach and it blew up in their face. That might lead to the Titans strongly considering McCarthy in 2026.
