Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield made it clear on Wednesday that reminiscing about his time in Carolina with former teammate and Seattle Seahawks star Sam Darnold is off the table.
When asked by a reporter if he and Darnold ever think back on the "good old days" in Carolina, Mayfield's response was sharp.
"Uhhh. Reminisce on what days?" Mayfield replied (via Ari Meirov on X), followed by a blunt, "Oh, nope. No we don't."
Mayfield also confirmed that he and Darnold remain close friends, despite his refusal to look back on their shared past in Carolina.
Both quarterbacks had mixed but ultimately challenging tenures with the Panthers. Mayfield was traded to Carolina in 2022 and won the starting job initially, but dealt with injuries and inconsistent team success before requesting his release late in the season.
He posted some notable performances but never fully gelled with the Panthers.
Darnold, also with Carolina during this period, faced competition from Mayfield and struggled with consistency and injuries, losing his starting role.
Looking back now, it's almost funny that the Panthers once had both Mayfield and Darnold on their roster. They had the potential to build something special, but it just never clicked. Watching both QBs lead their current teams successfully makes it even more ironic.
After Week 4 this season, the Bucs are 3-1, Seattle is 3-1, and then there's Carolina, still struggling at 1-3. Wow, what a contrast.
