The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven't had running back Bucky Irving on the field since Week 4, when he suffered shoulder and foot injuries.

Irving was never placed on injured reserve, which led many to believe he wouldn't be out more than three games.

However, after getting ruled out once again in Week 12 despite turning in three limited practices, he has now been absent for a total of seven games.

As it turns out, Irving's absence wasn't solely because of injury.

Bucky Irving's absence explained

In the lead up to the Week 12 game against the Los Angeles Rams, it was revealed that Irving was dealing with an off-the-field issue that contributed to his absence.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said that after Irving got injured, he "didn't handle it well," which suggests he had a mental health issue in the wake of his injury.

The Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud provided more clarity:

"Bucky Irving needed some extra support after becoming injured and being away from his team for the first time in his career, according to people close to the situation," Stroud wrote.

When is Bucky Irving coming back?

FOX Sports' Greg Auman added that Irving is now "in a good place" and he will be returning to the field sooner rather than later.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Irving is expected to make his return to the field in Week 13.

"Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving, who has not played since Week 4 vs. The Eagles due to shoulder and foot injuries, is expected to make his return next Sunday vs. The Arizona Cardinals, per sources," Schefter reported.

"Irving looked strong at practice this week and might have been able to play vs. The Rams, but the team decided to hold him out, give him one more week and have him return next Sunday," Schefter added.

It's great news to hear Irving is doing better and we can't wait to watch him take the field in Week 13.
