Buccaneers' Todd Bowles still unsure of extent of Mike Evans injury image

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offense was seen as one of the best in football, not only because of the caliber of its starting players, but also because of the depth that coordinator Josh Grizzard has.

Well, that depth is now getting tested.

With Chris Godwin still working his way back from a nasty ankle injury last season, and now Mike Evans leaving the game early against the New York Jets in a 29-27 win with a hamstring injury, that treatment room is filling up.

But when asked about Evans' injury and how long he'll be out for, head coach Todd Bowles gave little away.

“Not yet," Bowles said. "He's going to get an MRI tomorrow. Right now, they deeming it as low grade, but we'll see when it comes out."

Will Mike Evans play vs. the Eagles?

The Buccaneers will wait for the results of the MRI, but for a low-grade hamstring, it might be doubtful that Evans takes his place.

After all, let's not forget that he suffered a hamstring injury last season that ruled him out for a month before he returned, and Tampa Bay won't want something similar to happen to their Pro Bowl receiver.

Given that we are only four weeks into the season, there is every reason to suggest that even if Evans feels like he can go against the Eagles, holding him back for a week or two might not be the worst idea in the world.

His age also likely plays a factor in the decision, too, and all eyes will be on No. 13 at practice this week to see how he is moving.

But as far as Evans taking his place against the Eagles?  Color us skeptical on that.
