Baker Mayfield was the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Expectations are always high for a first overall pick, and that was certainly the case for Mayfield.
He joined the Cleveland Browns after a stellar career at the University of Oklahoma. However, he struggled to transition his game to the NFL. When the Browns traded for and signed Deshaun Watson to a massive contract, Mayfield requested a trade. His request was granted, and he was sent to the Carolina Panthers. After recovering from an early-season injury, he served as a backup to PJ Walker, which led him to request his release.
Mayfield finished out the 2022 season with the Los Angeles Rams. Afterward, he signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he finally showcased the talent that had shone at Oklahoma. His performance earned him a substantial contract extension, providing the stability he hadn’t had since his early days with Cleveland.
