The Seattle Seahawks are coming off a strong Week 12 win over the Tennessee Titans, and remain only a game behind the Los Angeles Rams for the top spot in the NFC West.
While Sam Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba continue to dominate, the Seattle running game needs some work. Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet have been fine, but there's room for improvement.
Ahead of Week 13, when Seattle faces a tough Minnesota Vikings defense, Seattle is adding to their running back room. According to NFL insider Jordan Schutz, the Seahawks are signing former Vikings and Rams running back Cam Akers to the active roster.
Seahawks sign Cam Akers to active roster to bolster RB room
"Sources: The Seahawks are signing veteran RB Cam Akers to their active roster," Schultz reports. "Akers, still 26, spent time with the Vikings this season and now joins 8-3 Seattle for RB depth."
Seattle could use some extra depth in their running back room, and Akers is a quality option. He's spent time with the Vikings and Rams, most recently playing three games with Minnesota earlier this season.
Akers is in his sixth NFL season and has totaled 2,044 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 507 carries, good for an average of 4.0 yards per attempt.

He's also been involved in the passing game, catching 52 passes for 388 yards and four touchdowns in his NFL career.
While he only had five carries for the Vikings earlier this season, in 2024, between the Vikings and the Houston Texans, Akers ran for 444 yards and two touchdowns on 104 attempts.
His addition to the running back room won't be to take over for Walker or Charbonnet, but it will be to add some extra depth with George Holani banged up, and potentially heading to Injured Reserve.
