Former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp described the chance to face his old team with a return trip to the Super Bowl on the line as an “unbelievable” experience.

The veteran wideout just completed his first season in Seattle, serving behind standout receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. On Sunday, the Seahawks will host the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship game, setting up a highly personal matchup for the Washington native.

Despite the storyline surrounding him, Kupp said he’s making a point to keep the focus on the bigger picture and what Seattle is trying to accomplish as a team at the end of another NFL season.

“In my story, this is an unbelievable storyline — the chances of this ends up being what it is,” Kupp told reporters Thursday. “I’m really excited about that, but this is the Seahawks going into an NFC championship game and trying to get the job done.”

Kupp signed a three-year contract with Seattle this offseason after spending eight years with the Rams. The move marked a homecoming, and he credited the Seahawks’ coaching staff for making the transition smooth.

“They do a really good job is terms of what their overarching plan for a lot of guys on this team,” he said. “A lot of it is trusting those guys. Our jobs as players is to come in here and be pedal to the metal.”

Statistically, Kupp had a modest season, finishing with 47 receptions for 593 yards and two touchdowns. At 32, his production is a far cry from his historic 2021 campaign, when he recorded 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns to lead the league across the board — a season many believed should have earned him NFL MVP honors.
