TL;DR

  • Las Vegas Raiders' quarterback situation with Geno Smith has not worked out as planned.
  • Tom Brady, a Raiders minority owner, praised college quarterback CJ Carr.
  • CJ Carr, a Notre Dame Fighting Irish player, is not eligible for the draft until 2027.
  • The Raiders face quarterback uncertainty and Chip Kelly's future role is questioned.

Unfortunately for the Las Vegas Raiders, the quarterback situation obviously hasn't worked out with veteran Geno Smith.

That might be due to former San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly, the offensive coordinator out in Vegas.

Smith was anticipated to eventually become the franchise quarterback for this team, yet that has not materialized early in his time with The Raiders.

It will be fascinating to observe Pete Carroll's and the Raiders' future plans, and with a promising draft class on the horizon, the Raiders might find some valuable prospects to target.

Additionally, other prospective quarterbacks might make an immediate difference in Las Vegas, and it appears Tom Brady, who now holds a minority ownership in the Raiders, favors one of them.

When speaking on FOX, Brady stated that he believed CJ Carr looks like one of the best quarterbacks he's seen at the college level since Joe Burrow. Carr and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have enjoyed some success this year, as the redshirt freshman has proven to be a valuable player.

“CJ Carr looks like the best quarterback I have seen at the college level since Joe [Burrow] was at LSU,” Brady said on FOX. “He knows the game, and he can make every throw necessary.”

Will Chip Kelly remain in his position?

It's somewhat regrettable that if the Raiders are interested in Carr, they'll need to postpone their draft plans for him by a year, given that he won't be eligible for the draft until 2027. Furthermore, it's reasonable to ponder if Kelly deserves an opportunity to mentor a developing Carr.

Yet, this might also indicate that Brady has identified the quarterback he wants to lead this offense into the future.

Whenever a legend of Brady’s status is giving out high praise like that, it's usually a good sign.

For now, however, the Raiders aren't in a great position with the quarterback situation, and it'll be something Kelly has to figure out.
