George Kittle receives injury update amid 49ers' push for NFC's No. 1 seed image

The San Francisco 49ers are one of the NFL's hottest teams as they enter the stretch run of the 2025 season. They've won five in a row, including Monday night's dominating victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

But they didn't come out of the primetime matchup unscathed; star tight end George Kittle suffered a mid-to-low ankle sprain, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

"49ers tight end George Kittle is dealing with a “mid-to-low ankle sprain,” per source. Kittle said after the game he believed he avoided a high ankle and that is the case," Fowler wrote in a post on X.

George Kittle's injury timeline remains unclear over the final two games of 2025

It wasn't revealed if Kittle was going to miss any time for San Francisco over the team's final two games of the regular season, but if he's going to miss any time, it would be a serious blow to the 49ers' offense.

Despite only appearing in 10 games this season, the standout tight end is the second leading receiver in San Francisco, behind only two-way star Christian McCaffrey.

The ninth-year veteran has hauled in 52 receptions for 599 yards and seven touchdowns, tying McCaffrey for second-most receiving touchdowns.

San Francisco is vying for the NFC's No. 1 seed at the moment, with their path to the top of the conference firmly in their hands.

If the 49ers win out, they'll land a first-round bye. But it won't be an easy task.

They face the 11-4 Chicago Bears next week, who are no pushovers, and finally, a home tilt with the current No. 1 seed, the Seattle Seahawks, in Week 18.

Kyle Shanahan would sleep a lot easier at night knowing he has his star tight end in the mix when preparing for two tough opponents.
