The injury bug won't leave the San Francisco 49ers alone.
This time, it hit superstar linebacker Fred Warner in a gruesome way.
Warner got his right foot caught up in traffic as a tackle was made. The foot got turned sideways.
Within a few minutes, the 49ers' training staff had put a cast on Warner's foot. He was carted off the field.
Warner wouldn't be back anytime soon, and it's another major blow to San Francisco. They officially ruled him out with an ankle injury within five minutes of him being carted off.
Nick Bosa is already out for the year as far as defensive stars go.

QB Brock Purdy continues to miss action.
WR Brandon Aiyuk still hasn't played yet, and his peer Ricky Pearsall is out now, too.
The injury list goes on longer, as well. It's been brutal in San Francisco.
Warner is the classic "quarterback of the defense" for the 49ers, running the show for defensive coordinator Robert Salah.
There's no replacing that exact role. The 49ers will put different linebackers on the field, and they'll just have to figure out how to make calls without Warner.
It's not two seasons in a row that the 49ers have been absolutely crushed by injuries.
Warner is the latest victim of this odd, persistent curse.
