The Las Vegas Raiders have officially moved on from head coach Pete Carroll, a decision that doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
However, the San Francisco 49ers could be impacted by that, as the next hire will certainly be about the future of the roster, including the quarterback position.
Las Vegas has the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and with that comes an opportunity to finally solve the quarterback question. The next head coach won’t just be tasked with winning games, as he’ll be responsible for developing a rookie QB and building an offense that actually makes sense around him.
Klint Kubiak fits that, the former 49ers pass game coordinator. Still just 38 years old, Kubiak has built a reputation as a quarterback-friendly offensive coach and someone who knows how to run an offense.
Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report believes Kubiak could ultimately be the choice in Las Vegas.
“The Raiders are likely to have the top pick in the 2026 draft, and they're likely to use that selection on a quarterback. And that's where Klint Kubiak comes in. The 38-year-old was the passing game coordinator during Brock Purdy's excellent sophomore campaign in San Francisco, and he's had a ton of success with Sam Darnold in Seattle this season.
His offensive approach makes a lot of sense in Vegas with a rookie quarterback. You know he'd emphasize running back Ashton Jeanty to take pressure off of whoever is drafted, and he would provide a much-needed breath of fresh air to the Raiders,” he wrote.
If the Raiders are serious about fixing this mess, pairing a young quarterback with an elite offensive mind like Kubiak could be the smartest path forward.
Kubiak is currently with the Seattle Seahawks, serving as the team's offensive coordinator.
