Did George Kittle tear his Achilles? NFL fans fear the worst after injury announcement image

If the San Francisco 49ers advance past the wild-card round of the playoffs, it is likely they will have to move forward without tight end George Kittle.

Kittle suffered what the 49ers are calling an Achilles injury in the second quarter. The injury occurred when Kittle was reeling in a catch near the sideline.

It was immediately clear Kittle had suffered something serious in his ankle area, and now the concern is that he might have a torn Achilles, which of course is a significant injury that could threaten his 2026 status.

Here's what we know.

Did George Kittle tear his Achilles?

We can't say for sure yet, but all signs are pointing to that.

Not only do we have confirmation from the team that Kittle has an Achilles injury, the replay also suggests that is his injury.

And, given the fact that the Niners brought the cart out for Kittle, that is yet another sign of a serious injury.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that Kittle's wife and 49ers owner Jed York looked "somber" as they headed to the locker room to meet the superstar tight end.

We will likely get confirmation of Kittle's injury at some point tonight, but if not it'll be tomorrow. Unfortunately, we're not expecting positive news.
