The San Francisco 49ers demolished the Philip Rivers-led Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football of Week 16, 48-27. It was a massive win for the 49ers for a few reasons.

One of the top reasons is that the 49ers remain in control of their own destiny for the NFC's number 1 seed. But the play of Brock Purdy was just as impactful.

As ESPN's Adam Schefter shared, Purdy's five touchdowns against the Colts made 49ers history on Monday Night Football, as he passed Joe Montana and Steve Young for franchise history.

"Brock Purdy is now the first 49ers' QB to throw five touchdown passes on MNF," Schefter shared.

Purdy's performance against the Colts was impressive on its own, but this record further contextualizes how incredible this game was.

Despite Montana and Young being some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, both featured plenty on Monday Night Football during their time with the 49ers.

Combined with all of the other MNF games the 49ers have had over the years, Purdy's setting this record is an incredible feat.

Only Montana and Young have thrown for five touchdowns in a game for the 49ers before, and neither had their 5-TD day on Monday Night Football.

Purdy finished his day going 23-for-34 for 295 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception with one sack taken for zero yards lost. He also added 11 yards rushing on two attempts.

This was one of the best games of Purdy's career, and has the 11-4 49ers as one of the hottest teams in the NFL entering the final two weeks of the season.

Purdy surpassed both of the top franchise quarterbacks in 49ers history for Monday Night Football performances. Purdy's record will be hard to match, especially with Purdy likely to maintain his spot as the starter for years to come.
