The San Francisco 49ers endured a huge loss a few weeks ago when it was announced that edge rusher Nick Bosa would miss the remainder of the season.
The NFL trade deadline is also just under a month away, so this is the opportunity for San Fran to try and improve up front on the defensive side.
One thing the 49ers may have too much of is wide receivers.
Trade idea with the Miami Dolphins lands Bradley Chubb
One name that has started to swirl in trade rumors is the Miami Dolphins' edge rusher Bradley Chubb. With the Dolphins looking to be uncompetitive this season, it is a perfect opportunity for them to clear some of their veteran players in favor of draft picks.
FanSided's Nick San Miguel has speculated that Chubb could be a good option for the 49ers:
"One name that has come up in trade rumors recently is edge rusher Bradley Chubb of the Miami Dolphins. The 29-year-old veteran is a very solid edge rusher who already has four sacks in 2025. He missed all of 2024 due to an ACL tear, but in 2023, he had 11 sacks in 16 games."
In return, San Francisco gives up receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who has been a massive bust since the 49ers signed him to a long-term extension. Aiyuk is currently out with a knee injury, but after a great 2023 season, he has not quite been the same.
This deal works for both sides, and Miami also benefits by picking up another receiver after Tyreek Hill was lost for the season due to a bad knee injury.
If the 49ers want to continue to compete in the NFC, another formidable defensive lineman would go a long way in ensuring they stay in contention.
