The San Francisco 49ers should be in the market for an edge rusher at the NFL trade deadline.

The 49ers are sitting at 4-1 despite a rash of injuries and could be a true contender if they can get healthy at some point. Sadly, one player they won't be getting back is edge rusher Nick Bosa, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 3.

Given how the 49ers have started, it's safe to assume general manager John Lynch will be exploring his options in order to add a Bosa replacement. We say "replacement" very loosely because Bosa's shoes will be tough to fill.

One idea for the 49ers to help their cause comes from Pro Football & Sports Network's Josh Weil. He predicts a Niners trade with the New Orleans Saints.

Here's the prediction:

  • 49ers get: DE Cameron Jordan
  • Saints get: 2026 third-round pick

"I think bringing in a veteran like Cameron Jordan, who has played at an elite level for a very long time and is also hungry to win a Super Bowl before he retires, would be great for the 49ers’ chances of winning the division that they currently lead and making a playoff run," Weil wrote.

The Saints are clear sell candidates ahead of the deadline thanks to a 1-4 start. In fact, a report suggest teams around the NFL believe they will sell off pieces.

Jordan is a logical guess in terms of someone who could get moved considering he's in the final year of his contract.

A three-time All-Pro (two second-team) and eight-time Pro Bowler, Jordan, 36, was once one of the elite edge rushers in the NFL, but it's safe to say he has been on the decline for a few years now as he crosses over into his mid-30s.

However, Jordan is off to a decent start in 2025 with 2.5 sacks and eight pressures. That puts him on pace for 8.5 sacks and 27 pressures, which would be a welcomed level of production for a San Francisco team that needs more help along the edge.

Because of his age and the fact that he's in the final year of his contract, it's hard to envision Jordan garnering a third-round pick in a trade. Barring a surge in sacks, we're of the belief he'll fetch a fourth-rounder instead.

Regardless, Jordan is absolutely someone the 49ers should have their eye on and, rest assured, they will if their impressive season continues.
