The San Francisco 49ers are 5-2 in the year, and sit in a three-way tie atop the NFC West.

Quarterback Brock Purdy has started just two games this season, as he's dealt with injury. Backup quarterback Mac Jones has been the 49ers' starter in the rest and he's gone 4-1 in his five games.

Purdy is expected to be out again on Sunday against the Houston Texans, which will give Jones his sixth start of the year. Purdy is 1-1 as a starter in 2025, and Jones in 4-1.

Mac Jones could earn more incentives

Jones just earned a $400,000 incentive after the 49ers' Week 7 win against the Atlanta Falcons, as it was Jones' fourth win as a starter on the year.

Now, for every additional win as a starter, Jones will earn another $100,000.

However, Jones' incentives don't end there. The 49ers' quarterback can also earn another $550,000 if he plays in at least 50 percent of the team's offensive plays this season and the 49ers make the players, according to ESPN.

While that seems like a large percentage for Jones to hit, he's already played in five full games, and it looks like he'll get his sixth start on Sunday.

That means Jones, theoretically, would only need to play two and a half more games in the year to reach half of the 49ers' 17 games in 2025.

Purdy has been dealing with a lingering toe injury and the 49ers have made it clear, they want to make sure he's 100 percent healthy before he returns.

That could mean a longer leash for Jones to continue to make starts, or come in if something else happens to Purdy throughout the season.

However, regardless of how the rest of the season plays out, Jones has made a nice chunk of extra money this year, and shown that in the right system, he can be a reliable quarterback.
