The San Francisco 49ers should be getting one of their most impactful receiving options back in the next couple of weeks in the form of George Kittle.
It was recently reported that Kittle will be returning from IR in week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons, barring any setbacks. He's been out since week one with a hamstring injury.
Should San Fran consider trading TE due to Kittle's return?
The 49ers currently have tight end Jake Tonges also on their roster, who has become a breakout receiving option for whoever is at quarterback for San Francisco.
Tonges has hauled in 19 catches for 166 yards and three touchdowns in five games this season. With Kittle's return, there is some buzz around Jake Tonges being a potential trade option for the 49ers.
FanSided's Stephen Parello floated the idea that Tonges could be a potential name the 49ers look into trading this month, ahead of the early November deadline:
"With Kittle's return on the horizon, opportunities for Tonges in the passing game will become few and far between. His strong showing so far, though, should drum up enough interest to get a late-round pick back, while the 49ers can rely on Luke Farrell to step up and handle TE2 duties as he's become accustomed to during Kittle's absence."
The idea seems great, but what would San Fran get in return? They would have to find a suitor who really needs a tight end and is willing to give up somewhere between a fifth and seventh-round pick.
