49ers get good Brock Purdy injury news after Mac Jones' strong start image

The San Francisco 49ers and their quarterback, Brock Purdy, were part of some good news on Wednesday afternoon.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan shared with reporters that Purdy would be a limited participant in practice. Shanahan said Purdy "has a chance" to play Sunday.

Purdy missed the Week 2 contest against the New Orleans Saints with a turf toe injury.

Mac Jones started in his place and was sharp in a victory that pushed the 49ers to 2-0 on the season.

The 'Niners are back in divisional play this week. They host their NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Purdy's injury felt like a bit of a deja vu all over again kind of situation for the 49ers, who were crushed by the injury bug in 2024 and currently have star tight end George Kittle on Injured Reserve right now.

The reports suggested Purdy could miss anywhere from two-to-five weeks with his injury, so it could be taken as quite encouraging that he's already getting back onto the practice field.

QBs are a tricky player to incorporate back into the fold in a limited fashion, because it helps the offense to get actual reps with the quarterback who will be starting.

By later in the week, that should provide a solid indication of whether it'll be Purdy or Jones taking the opening snap in Week 3.

But it's already good news to hear that Purdy is on his way back.

For the 49ers to successfully bounce back from the injury-filled, 6-11 2024 season, they need Purdy. And his health is apparently on the upswing.
