Other than being two of the most successful franchises in NFL history when it comes to Super Bowls, the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers have something else in common in 2025.

That thing in common is a concern along the edge.

Dallas' edge rusher problem is self-inflicted after the team traded away Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. Through three games, the Cowboys have just four sacks, the fifth-fewest in the NFL.

Meanwhile, the 49ers have just one more sack than Dallas, and San Francisco lost star edge rusher Nick Bosa for the season due to a torn ACL.

With both teams likely to be in the market for an impact edge rusher, Pro Football & Sports Network's Josh Weil believes the 49ers, Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts may make a call for New Orleans Saints eight-time Pro Bowler, Cameron Jordan.

With the Saints fully committed to this rebuild, and off to a 0-3 start, there is no better fit for a player like Cameron Jordan than mutual love and respect for the commitment the player and team have made to each other.

For Jordan, there are other suitors, but he only came on this list with one team in mind for me, and that is the San Francisco 49ers. Nick Bosa is out for the season with a torn ACL, and to have a veteran like Jordan, who has won a Super Bowl before, come in, not only keeps hopes alive, but can help lead the team with the fire of something to play for as the season closes out, which hasn’t been true in a few seasons.

Potential suitors: San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts

We wouldn't expect the Saints to trade Jordan now, but there is a possibility that happens at the trade deadline.

New Orleans will be well out of contention by then after a bad 0-3 start and should look to sell off pieces to kickstart a rebuild. Jordan, who is in the final year of his contract, isn't the same player he once was but should still fetch a good return, likely somewhere in the range of a fourth-round pick.

However, the Saints have also been allergic to rebuilds and that's exactly why they are in the cap hell they're in, so it wouldn't be shocking to see New Orleans make the blunder of not trading Jordan before he potentially leaves in free agency or simply retires in 2026.

The 49ers and Colts are both sitting at 3-0, so we could see either one making a play for Jordan if he becomes available. Like Dallas and San Fran, the Colts are struggling to take down the quarterback, also, with the team having seven sacks.

The Cowboys, on the other hand, are teetering in dangerous territory after a 1-2 start. If things continue to go poorly, it won't make sense for Dallas to make this kind of trade, although we would never rule anything out with Jerry Jones.

If Jordan has his pick of the lot, he would likely prefer the 49ers given they are the team most likely to compete for big things in 2025.

Jordan wouldn't fully fill Bosa's shoes, but he can make enough of an impact that it would be worth it for the Niners to give up a pick to acquire his services.
