The San Francisco 49ers won in a stunning game against the Chicago Bears, 42-38. It was a back-and-forth game with two offensive juggernauts putting up points left and right.
A huge part of the game, running back Christian McCaffrey added 181 scrimmage yards and a touchdown to his 2025 season total. This performance gave McCaffrey enough season-long statistics to join some elite NFL history.
As Nick Wagoner of ESPN notes, the 49ers superstar running back made NFL history alongside NFL legend and Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson as the only players in NFL history with three seasons reaching two yards and touchdown benchmarks.
Christian McCaffrey joins LaDainian Tomlinson in NFL history
"McCaffrey joined Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson as the only players in NFL history to have three seasons with at least 2,000 scrimmage yards and 15 touchdowns," Wagoner revealed.
The 49ers running back has 140 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries and added 41 yards receiving on four receptions in the win over the Bears.
The three seasons in which CMC met these benchmarks came with the 49ers for two and the Carolina Panthers for one. This season, with one week left, he has 2,069 scrimmage yards with 17 touchdowns.
Two years ago, in 2023, McCaffrey finished the year with 2,023 scrimmage yards with 21 touchdowns, both marks led the NFL that season.
The first time he reached these 2,000-yard and 15-TD benchmarks came back in 2019 with the Panthers. He totaled a ridiculous 2,392 yards from scrimmage and 19 total touchdowns, which were the leading marks in the NFL that season.
Of all of the great players in NFL history, only McCaffrey and Tomlinson have ever reached the 2,000-yard, 15-TD marks in three seasons in their NFL careers.
CMC is building a Hall of Fame case, and this statistic is a nice feather in his cap as he continues to further cement his candidacy for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
