After their Saturday night loss, the San Francisco 49ers now have to shift gears towards their offseason plans. Whether it's the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft or free agency, the 49ers need to prepare for what should be a busy offseason.

Adding in the trenches and figuring out the wide receiver room are key, and Jauan Jennings is the biggest free agent to pay attention to.

However, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN, the 49ers' odds to re-sign Jennings don't look great amid some lingering bad feelings from a year ago.

49ers get bad news on Jauan Jennings extension

"He wanted an extension last offseason and didn't get one," Graziano writes, "so it's possible some hard feelings linger, and he wants to look elsewhere."

After last year's unsuccessful extension attempt, Graziano believes Jennings might not want to come back to the 49ers.

This would be a tough loss for the 49ers, not just in the sense that losing a player of Jennings' caliber would sting, but that, combined with Brandon Aiyuk's 49ers career likely over, San Francisco would have a massive hole in the WR room.

While there's no guarantee that Jennings will actually leave due to these lingering bad feelings, it's worth noting as the offseason begins for the 49ers.

There might be one saving grace for the 49ers in their attempt to bring back Jennings. With Jennings missing some time in 2025, the market for his services might not be as robust as it would be otherwise.

He played in 15 games, missing a few at the beginning of the year, and being hampered at times during games this season. But when healthy, he was a quality weapon for Brock Purdy.

Jennings finished the year with 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine touchdowns. He won't dominate a game like some other receivers can, but the 49ers could use Jennings back next year.

With some uncertainty in the rest of the WR room, Jennings is a priority to re-sign this offseason. But if Graziano's fear that last year's extension wish doesn't sit well with Jennings comes to fruition, the 49ers might be in trouble.
