If a new rumor is to be believed, the Pittsburgh Steelers are scouting out the trade market at wide receiver.
According to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan, the Steelers called the New Orleans Saints up during the bye week to inquire about a trade for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed.
Here's what Fillipponi said:
"Source: The Steelers reached out to the Saints during the bye week to take their temperature on WR Rashid Shaheed. Who will be a FA at the end of the year. Big play WR and return man. Trades are being made in the NFL left and right," he reported.
It's hard to say if the Saints would trade Shaheed. After all, they have young signal-callers that could use all the help they can get at wide receiver.
However, the Saints desperately need to rebuild and trading a player who is in a contract year to get an asset to help with said rebuild makes total sense.
It's nothing new that the Steelers need wide receiver help. Aaron Rodgers lacks a true No. 2 target behind DK Metcalf and now Calvin Austin is dealing with an injury and Roman Wilson might as well be on a milk carton.
A deep threat with return experience, Shaheed would be an upgrade over anyone not named Metcalf. He posted a career year in 2023 with 719 yards and was on pace to smash that mark in 2024 before succumbing to a season-ending injury.
Shaheed is healthy in 2025 and has posted 288 yards and two scores despite having a terrible situation at quarterback.
With the talented wideout in a contract year and lacking elite production, it shouldn't cost much for the Steelers to acquire Shaheed.
Pittsburgh would be wise to get on a trade for the wideout as soon as possible because more teams might get involved as the trade deadline inches closer.
