Danny Smith is a legend on the Pittsburgh Steelers sideline.

If you've seen a good Steelers special teams play in the last decade-plus, there's a very good chance you've seen Smith fired up about it.

Even at 72 years old, Smith has as much energy down there as anyone.

He's also a highly regarded special teams guru.

Now, though, Steelers fans are scared. Smith might leave.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on Friday that they have interviewed Smith for their special teams coordinator position.

Why would he leave Pittsburgh?

Well, there's no guarantee that any of Mike Tomlin's assistant coaches will be retained.

A new head coach will likely want to put his imprint on Pittsburgh.

Now, a specialty position like Smith's in which he's so well-respected could actually be kept on board. A new head coach may decide to keep that particular bit of continuity.

But it also makes sense for Smith to start seeking what may be next.

The NFL deserves this guy on the sideline somewhere, so hopefully he lands a job for 2026 one way or another.
