The Pittsburgh Steelers are officially in the market for a new head coach.

According to several reports, head coach Mike Tomlin has decided to step down, and that has now been confirmed by the Steelers through a statement from president Art Rooney II.

The statement confirms that Tomlin did indeed step down and he was not fired.

Here's the full statement:

"During our meeting today, Coach Tomlin informed me that he has decided to step down as our Head Coach," Rooney wrote. "Obviously, I am extremely grateful to Mike for all the hard work, dedication and success we have shared over the last 19 years.

"It is hard for me to put into words the level of respect and appreciation I have for Coach Tomlin. He guided the franchise to our sixth Super Bowl championship and made the playoffs 13 times during his tenure, including winning the AFC North eight times in his career. His track record of never having a losing season in 19 years will likely never be duplicated.

"My family and I, and everyone connected to Steelers management, are forever grateful for the passion and dedication Mike Tomlin has devoted to Steelers football," Rooney concluded.

Tomlin's tenure ends after 19 years that saw no losing seasons and two trips to the Super Bowl, including one Super Bowl title.

Where Tomlin goes from here remains to be seen, but the overwhelming speculation is that he'll take a year off before getting back into coaching.

As for the Steelers, Tomlin stepping down could lead to significant changes in the roster, although that has not been confirmed yet.
