Steelers' Aaron Rodgers sets an NFL record for an old QB that Tom Brady didn't do image

In many ways, this felt like a vintage Aaron Rodgers night.

There were the tight spirals whizzing through the cold air. There were the sly smiles when things went well. There was even the crafty quick snap to catch the defense in a 12-men-on-the-field penalty.

And in the end, there was a victory. Rodgers led the Pittsburgh Steelers past the Miami Dolphins in convincing fashion on Monday Night Football, and in the process, he set an NFL record.

Rodgers is now the oldest starting quarterback to ever complete 85% of his passes in an NFL game, according to OptaStats.

He's 42 years old, having celebrated his birthday on December 2.

On this night, Rodgers was 23-for-27, which works out to 85.2%.

He threw for 224 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including one to old friend Marquez Valdes-Scantling and another to his new top target, DK Metcalf.

In a season where much of Rodgers' passing has been of the short variety, both his TD throws were strong passes down the field that showed off the arm talent that Rodgers still has.

Rodgers is having a bit of a renaissance this season. He is completing 66.8% of his passes, his best mark since his final MVP season in 2021. Rodgers has thrown 22 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions.

The Steelers are now 8-6, having kept themselves alone in first place ahead of the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North with three games left.

When Rodgers came to Pittsburgh, it was in part because they needed one another, but he also wanted one more chance at the postseason. And because of how he's playing right now, the Steelers are moving toward making that a reality.
