The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly adding to their edge rusher group just a few days after Nick Herbig sustained an injury in preseason Week 2.
According to UFL Newsroom's James Larsen, the Steelers are adding Michigan Panthers edge rusher Kenny Willekes.
Willekes tallied 31 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 28 quarterback pressures in 2025. His sacks total ranked tied for 10th in the league.
The signing comes after Herbig suffered a hamstring injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thankfully, head coach Mike Tomlin made it sound like Herbig isn't dealing with anything serious, so that's good news.
Willekes played his college ball at Michigan State, where he posted 26 sacks over four years, including a 10.5-sack campaign in 2019.
The former Spartan had a brief stint with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021, appearing in six games and totaling two 2.5 sacks that season. He has spent the past two years with the Panthers, tallying 7.5 sacks in that span.
With Herbig not expected to be down for long, this is likely just the Steelers adding another body to their offseason roster.
