If you had told Pittsburgh Steelers fans back in March that they would go into the season with the wide receivers group they have currently, that wouldn't have gone over well.
Just like last year, the Steelers entered 2025 with a major question mark at the position because the team was sporting DK Metcalf and not much else.
Calvin Austin is Pittsburgh's No. 2 wide receiver, but the early returns haven't been great and now he's dealing with a shoulder injury that leaves his status up in the air. There were high expectations for second-year wide receiver Roman Wilson, but he hasn't existed through four games.
Safe to say, the Steelers should be exploring any and all options at their disposal in order to upgrade the wide receivers room. On Tuesday, the Steelers were given yet another option.
The Tennessee Titans announced on Tuesday that they have waived wide receiver Treylon Burks, who has finally been medically cleared to return from a fractured collarbone.
Burks will now head to waivers, where the Steelers can claim him, but he'll go to free agency if he passes through.
Burks was the Titans' first-round pick in 2022 and was slated to be the replacement for A.J. Brown after Tennessee's disastrous trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Unfortunately, things have not panned out for Burks at all. When he hasn't been hurt, Burks has not shown anything more than small flashes of what the Titans hoped he would be upon drafting him.
That said, he's still only 25 years old and sometimes a change of scenery can do wonders for a player. Teaming up with Aaron Rodgers would give Burks the best quarterback he's ever played with and maybe that will help him turn things around.
Burks is a big-bodied receiver at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, but he can play both in the slot and out wide, which gives offensive coordinator Arthur Smith options on how to deploy him.
There is zero risk in bringing Burks in. He's a free agent after this season and the Steelers can simply let him walk if he doesn't revive his career.
But there's also a chance that Burks finds whatever it is he's looking for in Pittsburgh, which would provide a massive boost to the Steelers' offense.
