One of the most notable trades in Pittsburgh Steelers history has landed on a list of the biggest deals in NFL history.
Following the blockbuster deal that saw the Dallas Cowboys trade Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for two first-round picks and defensive lineman Kenny Clark, FOX Sports ranked the biggest trades in league history.
Coming in at No. 10 was the Steelers' trade with the Rams that landed running back Jerome Bettis in the Steel City in 1996. The Cowboys-Packers deal involving Parsons was ranked fourth on the list.
"Bettis became one of the best Steelers of all-time, earning the nickname 'The Bus.' He finished his career in Pittsburgh, and his final game came during the Steelers' Super Bowl victory in 2006," FOX wrote.
The Steelers gave up a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick for Bettis and a third-round pick in the trade with the Rams, which was a bit risky at the time considering Bettis was coming off a down season.
However, not only did Bettis prove to be a major impact player for the Steelers over 10 seasons, he also ranks as one of the better players at his position in the history of the league, with his 13,662 rushing yards ranking eighth all time.
Bettis secured four Pro Bowl nods and a few All-Pro selections during his stint in Pittsburgh and finally captured a Super Bowl ring in his final season in 2005 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.
Meanwhile, the Rams used that second-round pick on Ernie Conwell, who was a serviceable backup tight end for the Rams for seven seasons.
The other pick was traded to the Miami Dolphins in a deal that saw the Rams move up to draft offensive lineman Ryan Tucker in 1997. Tucker appeared in 59 games (31 starts) over five seasons with the Rams.
Safe to say, the Steelers easily won that trade.
