The Mike Tomlin era in Pittsburgh is coming to an end.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler, Tomlin is stepping down as Pittsburgh Steelers head coach.

"Breaking: After a historic 19-season run in Pittsburgh, Mike Tomlin just informed his team that he is stepping down as the Steelers head coach," Schefter reported.

And so ends Tomlin's 19-year tenure with the Steelers.

Hired in 2007, Tomlin ends his time in Pittsburgh with a 193-114-2 record and an 8-12 playoff mark that included two trips to the Super Bowl and one Super Bowl title.

The Steelers never experienced a losing season under Tomlin's watch, which was an astounding feat. However, despite his early success, the lack of a playoff win for nearly a decade was no doubt a stain on his tenure.

Nevertheless, Tomlin will go down as a legend in Pittsburgh for what he did accomplish over 19 seasons with the team.

The expectation has been that Tomlin wouldn't be fired and would only not be back with the Steelers for another season if he decided to step away.

Clearly that is what is happening here. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler adds that Tomlin notified the team on Monday of his decision.

With Tomlin out, the next head coach the Steelers hire will be just their fourth since 1969, an incredible sign of stability for the franchise.
