Pittsburgh Steelers fans can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to rookie defensive lineman Derrick Harmon's injury.
Harmon suffered a knee injury in the second quarter that forced his early exit from the contest. At first, it looked like Harmon had sustained a significant injury, as he was clearly distraught when he was being carted off the field.
However, Harmon was able to return to the sideline under his own power in the fourth quarter, which was the first sign that he would be OK.
After the game, head coach Mike Tomlin offered a positive update.
Derrick Harmon injury update
According to Tomlin, Harmon suffered a knee sprain.
"Derrick Harmon's got a knee sprain of some description. He's being evaluated," Tomlin said.
Tomlin didn't provide a timeline for Harmon's return, which isn't surprising considering it's so early in the process.
But the fact that it's a sprain is good news after everyone feared he had a torn ACL or some other kind of significant injury.
Now, the question is: will Harmon be ready for the start of the season?
The Steelers will play their regular-season opener on Sept. 7 against the New York Jets, which gives Harmon two-and-a-half weeks to get right.
Regardless, it's good to see the first-round pick won't miss the entire season.
