The New York Jets are reportedly parting ways with a wide receiver who could interest the Pittsburgh Steelers.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Jets are parting ways with wideout Allen Lazard after what has been a woefully disappointing season for him.
Schultz adds that Lazard requested the release, which is understandable given the circumstances.
Entering the season, Lazard figured to have a big role in New York with the team not having much talent at wide receiver behind Garrett Wilson.
Instead, Lazard has been a healthy scratch on several occasions and has barely been involved in the offense when active. In all, Lazard has just 10 catches for 70 yards and one touchdown in 10 games and 250 snaps.
This move should most definitely interest the Steelers.
Not only do the Steelers need as much help at wide receiver as they can get, Lazard also has a connection with quarterback Aaron Rodgers from their days together in Green Bay and New York.
The Steelers have already shown they aren't afraid to bring in old Rodgers buddies after the team signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who scored a touchdown Monday.
The Steelers also added Adam Thielen recently, so they may feel they are already sufficiently stocked at the position, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to add one more.
Of course, there's no guarantee the Steelers will land him, as Lazard must first pass through waivers and Pittsburgh has the No. 20 spot in the waiver priority.
