Antonio Brown criticizes Pittsburgh Steelers' roster: 'Dan Rooney turning in his grave' image

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown has a lot to say about the team's roster-building approach.

Brown took to X on Monday to criticize the Steelers for their failure to build through the draft and said late owner Dan Rooney is "turning in his grave."

"Steelers can not build in the draft no more they done wrong too many players I know Dan Rooney turning in his grave looking at a roster with a bunch of old guys who haven’t gotten it done," he wrote. "Random guys from all over the league."

According to Spotrac, the Steelers' 90-man roster has an average age of 27.1 years, which is the second-oldest in the NFL.

While the Steelers certainly haven't been lights out when drafting in recent years, no team is and the Steelers have found some good young talent in that span.

The most glaring issue has been Pittsburgh's inability to find a franchise quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger retired.

The team struck out on 2022 first-round pick and quarterback Kenny Pickett and have turned to veteran free-agent quarterbacks since then, with the team trying its hand at starting Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and now Aaron Rodgers.

Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw was outspoken earlier this offseason and blamed Pickett's failure on the team, not Pickett.

"You draft a quarterback in the first round. He is going to be successful," Bradshaw said. "But you've gotta surround him with the kind of talent he had in college. And they don't do it, and they call him a bust."

Despite the fans begging for the team to draft a quarterback, the Steelers didn't opt to take one until the sixth-round in Will Howard, who is hardly guaranteed to be "the guy" in Pittsburgh given where he was taken.

Many Steelers fans are fed up with the Mike Tomlin era, as Pittsburgh has been just barely good enough to make the playoffs in recent years and hasn't been a true contender in quite some time.

However, the Steelers are going to run it back again in 2025 in the hopes that Rodgers can put them over the top.

If not, Pittsburgh will have another opportunity to hit the reset button in 2026, when the team is projected to have 12 draft picks when you include estimated compensatory picks.
