TL;DR
- Saquon Barkley exited Week 8 with a groin injury, not believed to be serious.
- Barkley was spotted at practice on Thursday, indicating he may play in Week 10.
- Coach Nick Sirianni deferred injury updates to the official report due later Thursday.
- Tank Bigsby would be the primary replacement if Barkley is unable to play.
As Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was running wild on the New York Giants in Week 8, he came up lame after one of his carries that forced his early exit from the contest.
The injury occurred in the third quarter of the contest and took a trip to the blue medical tent. It was later revealed that Barkley is dealing with groin injury.
Here's what we know about his chances of suiting up in Week 10 after the Eagles come out of their bye to face the Green Bay Packers on Monday night.
Barkley's Week 10 status?
THURSDAY UPDATE: Barkley was spotted at practice on Thursday, so it looks like he'll take part, which puts him on track to suit up on Monday.
THURSDAY UPDATE: Head coach Nick Sirianni declined to comment on his running back's status ahead of practice, so we'll have to wait for the injury report.
"Nick Sirianni declined to give an update on the health of Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown. He deferred to the injury report later today," Zach Berman of The Athletic reported.
The Eagles will practice at 3:10 p.m. ET on Thursday, so we should know more about an hour or so after that when Philly drops its injury report.
END OF UPDATE
We do not have a definitive answer on this yet, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Barkley is not believed to have a serious injury.
"(Barkley) left the (Week 8 game) with a groin injury. My understanding is, had the game been a little closer, it is likely that Saquon would've returned," Rapoport said. "That is an indication that it is not a major injury and really not something to worry about for the Philadelphia Eagles."
Rapoport went on to add that, with the Eagles having a bye, the assumption is "Saquon would be OK with that groin injury."
Judging from the fact that the injury is not thought to be serious and Barkley had an extra week to rest up in Week 9 with the bye, he's seemingly more likely than not to play in Week 10.
That said, we won't get our next update on Barkley until Thursday, when the Eagles release their first injury report ahead of a Monday night matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
Barkley's backup?
After he exited the Week 8 game, Barkley was replaced by Tank Bigsby, who carried the rock nine times for 104 yards.
Bigsby would be the go-to option in fantasy football if Barkley can't play and we would consider him a high-end RB2 with RB1 upside for Sunday.
