The Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys open the 2025 NFL regular season on Thursday night.

It's the defending Super Bowl champs against their heated divisional rival in the NFC East.

One might assume, given the night the game is on, that this is a Thursday Night Football broadcast.

But, if you're up for being confused: This is actually a Sunday Night Football broadcast, just on Thursday.

We'll explain:

Why isn't the Eagles vs. Cowboys Thursday night game on Amazon Prime?

Amazon doesn't hold the rights to NFL Week 1's game on Thursday.

The Amazon Prime broadcasts for Thursday Night Football begin in Week 2.

That's how the NFL and Amazon agreed to their contract, because a different rightsholder was already the NFL's Week 1 broadcast partner of choice.

The opening game of the NFL season isn't a regular Thursday Night Football game despite the night of the week it is on.

Starting in Week 2, TNF will be televised on Amazon Prime.

But the season opener rights are owned by NBC, so the game will be put on by the usual Sunday Night Football team and be streamed on NBC's streaming property, Peacock.
