Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected last Thursday after spitting on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott during the NFL's season-opening game.
The incident occurred in the third quarter of the Eagles’ 24-20 victory at Lincoln Financial Field. Carter and Prescott exchanged words after a sack before Carter spat in Prescott’s direction, drawing an immediate unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and ejection. Officials reviewed the sequence before confirming Carter’s dismissal. Several Cowboys players confronted Carter as he walked toward the sideline, while teammates held back Prescott.
On Tuesday, the league announced that Carter would be fined instead of receiving any sort of suspension. NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Carter will only suffer a fine from the NFL.
"NFL is fining Eagles DT Jalen Carter $57,222 for spitting on Dak Prescott. The league also says the game he was ejected for will serve as a one-game suspension. “After talking to the Eagles, the NFL and the NFLPA, Jalen has decided not to appeal and focus on the Chiefs game,” said Carter’s agent Drew Rosenhaus."
The Eagles moved to 1-0 with the win over their NFC East rivals, while the Cowboys fell to 0-1. The Eagles have Carter back available for their Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday afternoon. The Cowboys, on the other hand, will look to bounce back against the Giants this weekend.
