Eagles' win over Commanders snaps absurd 20+ year drought in NFC East image

The Eagles took the field on Saturday night, playing a key matchup in Week 16, as the regular season winds down.

Philly entered the game with a 9-5 record and a lot to play for, despite holding a comfortable lead in the NFC East.

They played a division rival, the Commanders, as they looked to officially clinch the division with a win.

The Eagles went on to win, which not only officially guaranteed them the division win for this season but also ended a major two-decade drought in the NFL.

What drought did the Eagles end with their win over the Commanders?

After adding another win to their tally, the Eagles made it impossible for the Cowboys to have any chance at winning the division this year.

This was the second consecutive year that the Eagles have won the division, which is the first time a team in the NFC East has won the division in back-to-back years, since 2004 (via Adam Schefter).

Since 2005, there's been a lot of flip-flopping when it came to which team finished the regular season on top in the NFC East.

Since 2005, the division title totals for the four teams are three for the Giants, three for the Commanders/Redskins, seven for the Cowboys, and eight for the Eagles.

Philadelphia will still have a lot to play for in the final couple of weeks, as they will hope to finish as high a seed as they can.

In the final two weeks of the season, they'll play the Bills in Buffalo next week and the Commanders in Philadelphia to finish the regular season.
