Eagles trading A.J. Brown appears much more likely than cutting star WR image

The Philadelphia Eagles may have a decision to make on A.J. Brown this offseason.

The star wide receiver will still be under contract, but will Philly want to keep him? That's much less certain after a season of drama.

Brown hasn't gotten the ball as much as he has wanted, and he has made that displeasure known in a variety of ways.

For those wondering about a potential Brown departure, though, know this: It'll have to be a trade. A release is much too cost prohibitive.

"Should that happen, it would almost certainly have to be via a trade, since Brown is owed a fully guaranteed $29 million in 2026," ESPN's Dan Graziano explained in an article on Friday. "As such, releasing him would trigger nearly $72.5 million in dead cap charges. Trading him, meanwhile, would drop that number to around $43.5 million, which is still high but more manageable."

Brown remains one of the NFL's most talented receivers. He's proved that in the few big games he's had for the Eagles this season.

But too often, Jalen Hurts has either failed to involve Brown or been unable to be on the same page as his wideout.

Brown has complained in the media, on social media, even on a stream with a buddy.

It's clear that not everything is perfect in the City of Brotherly Love.

If the Eagles aren't able to defend their Super Bowl title, it could lead the vibes to sink even worse, and that could be the final push that changes Brown's future team.
