The Philadelphia Eagles are now in the market for a new offensive coordinator after removing Kevin Patullo from the job on Tuesday.
As the Eagles begin their search, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that the team has two coaches at the top of their list.
Those two coaches are former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll and former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.
"The Philadelphia Eagles have begun reaching out to candidates regarding their offensive coordinator vacancy," Russini reported. "Former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and New York Giants Brian Daboll are at the top of their list, sources say."
Daboll was cut loose by the Giants during the season after a disastrous tenure.
While things went badly in New York with the Giants, Daboll rose to fame as the offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills and is still a respected play-caller who has a history of success in the role the Eagles want him for..
McDaniel did not survive two straight losing seasons to close out his Dolphins tenure, but before that he was the play-caller for one of the most explosive offenses in the league and got more out of Tua Tagovailoa than anyone could have imagined.
Both coaches are getting looks for head-coach jobs, but McDaniel is far more likely to land one, so that's something to keep an eye on for those who want to see him in Philly.
Knowing that, it's more likely the Eagles will hire Daboll, as we can't imagine any team taking a chance on him as a head coach. And, we would assume that Daboll would love to stick it to the Giants twice a year for the foreseeable future.
All that said, if the Eagles end up with either McDaniel or Daboll as their offensive coordinator, they'll be in good hands.
