The Philadelphia Eagles’ offense has regressed from their Super Bowl-winning season. New offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo has been the primary focus of criticism in the City of Brotherly Love. Despite the team's winning record, his schemes and play-calling have left plenty to be desired.
However, things may have gone a little too far this week. His house was reportedly vandalized, and he’s gotten countless insults and even death threats from angry Eagles fans throughout the course of the season.
That’s why Patullo wanted to set the record straight. And, while he welcomes and understands the criticism of the job he’s done, he believes the fans crossed a line this time.
Kevin Patullo calls out Eagles fans
"It's perfectly acceptable to sit up here and talk about what's going on, how to fix it, what we're going to do going forward, and we know that. But when it involves your family, obviously it crosses the line. And so, that happened. At this point, we've just gotta move on. We're trying to win. That's all we want to do is focus -- whether it's my family, whether it's the team -- all we're trying to do together is focus on this week,” Patullo said, per Ken Berman of The Athletic.
The Eagles’ offense ranks 24th in total yards per game (318.0), 23rd in passing yards per game (196.2), and 22nd in rushing yards per game (108.5). They also rank 19th in points per game (22.5), and have only converted on 34.5 percent of their third-down attempts, the fifth-worst mark in the league.
Saquon Barkley has also taken a big step back from his league-shattering campaign in 2024. He’s up to just 740 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 198 carries, averaging 3.7 yards per attempt.
Star wide receiver A.J. Brown has also been quite vocal about his frustration with the offense. And even though he’s gotten more involved in the past couple of games, his numbers (56 receptions for 699 yards and six touchdowns) are a far cry from his usual standards.
The Eagles are still 8-4 and in first place in the NFC East, but they’re 3-2 in their last five games and have dropped two games in a row.
They should still be considered one of the teams to beat in the conference, but with two divisional games ahead of them and the Dallas Cowboys looking like a legitimate contender since the trade deadline, pressure will be on Patullo to turn things around before it’s too late.
