Eagles make stance clear on idea of benching Jalen Hurts image

Jalen Hurts has played so poorly recently that some Philadelphia fans want him benched.

It's been just 10 months since Hurts was Super Bowl MVP, of course, but the Eagles QB hasn't played his best football of late, and Philly fans aren't exactly known for their mercy.

Hurts isn't going anywhere, though.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni appeared on local radio on Wednesday and made it very clear where he stands on Hurts.

“I think that’s ridiculous," Sirianni said of the concept of a benching. "... I know every time I go out in that field with Jalen Hurts as our quarterback, we have a chance to win the game. That’s something that’s been proven. We’ve won a lot, a lot of football games.”

Even now, the Eagles are atop the NFC East.

Hurts did have a nightmare of a Monday night with five turnovers, including two on the same improbable play in which he was intercepted, then recovered a fumble, only to lose a fumble, too.

The Eagles don't have the most proven QB depth chart in the world. Tanner McKee is the QB2, and Sam Howell is in the building, too.

Philly's passing game has taken a step back this season, and the Eagles aren't using the quarterback run very much except in tush push scenarios. Analysts have been calling for the Eagles to use Hurts under center more, but so far, that hasn't been happening.

The Eagles will have work to do if they want to defend their Super Bowl title. But don't expect them to turn to a QB other than Hurts anytime soon.
