One of the big unanswered questions remaining for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason is: Will struggling pass rusher Bryce Huff remain in the team’s plans to start the 2025 season?

Eagles fans awaiting an update on the Huff situation got a major clue on Wednesday.

Philly resumed its voluntary offseason workouts with its first open media session of the year, meaning reporters were on hand to relay ridiculous stats (like Jalen Hurts’ 7-on-7 completion percentage), give way-to-early updates on potential position battles, and perhaps most importantly — give an account on which players were in attendance.

The Eagles reportedly had just about its entire 90-man roster on hand Wednesday, sans a few established veterans like DeVonta Smith, Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson and Reed Blankenship.

Also not present at the practice was Huff, a mysterious sign for a player who makes north of $17 million per year (second highest on defense) and had, by all accounts, a brutal debut season for Philly in 2024 that included getting benched as a healthy scratch in Super Bowl LIX.

Now, Huff may have had a good reason for his absence, and these workouts are completely voluntary, so no financial penalties are coming his way. It’s also entirely possible that Huff wanted to dodge the media altogether, given how brutal last season turned out.

Regardless, it’s a poor look for Huff to be skipping organized team workouts coming off a season where he managed just 23 total pressures and two sacks. No one’s sweating Johnson, Dickerson or Smith skipping an OTA session in May, but Huff could use the extra work.

What this could signal behind the scenes is a potential post June 1 trade, which would give the Eagles some salary cap relief for moving Huff off their books (teams are eligible to spread all remaining dead cap charges over two years on moves made after June 1). Philly already used its two post-June 1 designations on Darius Slay Jr. and James Bradberry, so it’s possible the team is simply waiting until the calendar flips to June to move Huff, and told him to stay home for OTAs.

No matter how you slice it, Wednesday’s news is a clear indication that Huff’s days in Philly are numbered.
