The NFL preseason may not bring much in the way of inter-team competition, but it is a wildly important time to figure out roster construction.

As the Seahawks host the Vikings Thursday, there are several positional battles to look at. The Seahawks are trying to establish their backup running back spot behind Kenneth Walker III. Will it be the rookie Zach Charbonnet out of UCLA? Veteran DeeJay Dallas? Or one of the other myriad of players behind them?

The most important spot for the Vikings to figure out is going to be at cornerback. Patrick Peterson has departed for the Steelers, and the Vikings are now saddled with a bunch of players with something to prove. Bryan Murphy Jr., second-year man Akaleb Evans, rookie Mekhi Blackmon, and Andrew Booth Jr. are all looking to secure roster and starting spots. There is a stable of players underneath these frontrunners also looking to get more snaps.

Both of these teams made the postseason last year, with the Vikings winning the NFC North and the Seahawks clinching a wild card berth. They are looking for repeat performances behind Kirk Cousins and Geno Smith, respectively.
