When the season began, many looked at the Seahawks vs. Rams matchup in Week 18 and predicted it would have big playoff implications. Very few thought it would be the Seahawks fighting for a postseason spot and the Rams out of contention.

But that's where the teams stand heading into the final week of the regular season. Seattle needs a win to keep its fading playoff hopes alive, while Los Angeles is playing for little more than pride as the reigning Super Bowl champion ends a miserable campaign.
With a victory on Sunday — and a Lions win (or tie) against the Packers — the Seahawks (8-8) will clinch a playoff spot that looked highly improbable following the departure of Russell Wilson over the offseason.
They stayed alive last week with a resounding 23-6 win over the Jets. Geno Smith went 18 of 29 through the air with 183 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, while Kenneth Walker III added 133 yards on the ground. The defense forced three turnovers to help seal the crucial win.

On the other side, the Rams (5-11) succumbed in a 31-10 defeat against their Los Angeles rival, the Chargers, last week. The offense — led by Baker Mayfield for the fourth week in a row — failed to get anything going, while the defense was sliced apart by Justin Herbert.
The Rams would at least end their season on a high note if they were able to spoil their division rival's playoff hopes in Week 18.
