So you're saying there's a chance? New England clings to postseason aspirations as it travels to the West Coast to take on the Chargers.
The Patriots (5-6) are still alive in the playoff hunt following their 20-17 upset win over Arizona in Week 12. New England had just 179 yards of offense against the Cardinals, including just 84 passing yards from Cam Newton, yet managed to kicking at game-winning field goal in the final seconds. Newton has thrown for fewer than 100 yards twice this season and has thrown just four touchdowns in 10 starts. His 387 rushing yards, however, are the fourth most among quarterbacks.
It's been another disappointing years for Los Angeles (3-8) who seems to always find inventive ways to lose. The Chargers' 10-point loss to Buffalo last week was the first game this season that they lost by more than one possession. Justin Herbert at least provides reason for optimism, as he is likely going to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year. He's thrown for 3,015 yards and 23 touchdowns in his first year out of Oregon.
New England needs to pick up two games in the standings in order to qualify for the playoffs. Unfortunately the Patriots have to play three teams with winning records in the final four weeks, decreasing the likelihood that Bill Belichick makes the playoffs without Tom Brady.
