Who is Nate Landman's sister? Meet Ocean Trail, former Oregon State swimmer with ironic name image

The Landman name has made quite the impact in the sporting world over the years.

Rams LB Nate Landman leads the accolades, emerging as one of the NFL’s toughest tacklers after signing with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2022. Now with Los Angeles, Landman continues to earn praise one crunching hit at a time.

He is far from the only member of his family to make waves. Landman’s father played professional rugby in Zimbabwe, while his brother played tight end at Arizona State. And then there’s his sister, whose name — Ocean Trail — seemingly foretold a dazzling career in the pool. Ocean Trail was a swimming phenom in her athletic prime, giving her first name a legacy longer than most former non-Olympic Division I swimmers.

Who is Ocean Trail?

Ocean Trail is Landman's sister. Like her younger brother, she, too, was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. The Landman family lived in Zimbabwe's capital city until 2002, when they moved to California. They settled in Danville, with Ocean attending Monte Vista High, the same school Nate would star at years later.

Raised in an athletic family -- Nate and Ocean's father, Shaun, played professional rugby in Zimbabwe -- the Landman children were chips off the old block. While Nate and his older brother Brendan gravitated towards the gridiron, Ocean preferred the swimming pool. She was renowned for her freestyle skillset, being named a high school All-American for her performances in the 200 and 400 free relays.

Ocean was rewarded with an offer from Oregon State. She instantly became one of her side's most familiar names, owing at least some of that popularity to her apt forename.

ESPN analyst Troy Aikman took notice during the Rams's win over the Falcons in Week 18, shouting out Ocean — and her fittingly ironic first name — while praising Nate's performance and the Paramount+ show that shares he and Ocean's surname.

“He likes being called Landman. Great show, great linebacker, great name. I mean, it just all ties together,” Aikman said. "The interesting thing—guess what his sister’s name is? Ocean Landman, and she was a swimmer at Oregon State. So there you go.”

Ocean, who has since transitioned into the field of fitness in the years since her graduation, swiftly responded to Aikman's shoutout on her Instagram page, which boasts 13,900 followers.

“When @troyaikman gives you a shoutout on Monday night football,” she wrote on her Instagram Story.

Where is Nate Landman from?

Landman and his two siblings hail from Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe. He is one of two active NFL players to share that distinction. The other is Eagles safety Andrew Mukuba.

Despite only living in Harare until the age of four, Landman has a special relationship with his country of berth. His tattoos pay homage to his heritage, with his arms bearing images of an elephant and lion and his chest covered with an outline of Africa. He traveled to Zimbabwe in 2023 and plans of visiting more as his career wears on.

“It felt like home," Landman told The Athletic in 2026.
