Some NFL quarterbacks have gotten off to hot starts to the new season. Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford and Dak Prescott have been among the best signal callers to begin 2025, leading their teams with their arms. 

However, that can't be said of every starter. A few high-profile names have faced turnover issues through five games, leading to tough records and the threat of being benched in the near future.

The Cleveland Browns' Joe Flacco and the New York Giants' Russell Wilson are already two names who have fell on their respective depth charts, partially due to interceptions. Which quarterbacks could be next?

Here's a look at the NFL's interceptions leaders through Week 5 games.

Who has the most interceptions this season? 

Through the afternoon Sunday slate of Week 5 games, its the Las Vegas Raiders' Geno Smith who owns the most interceptions in the NFL with nine. Smith already led the league in picks entering Week 5, including three total in two separate games, before throwing another two interceptions against the Indianapolis Colts.

Jake Browning, the Cincinnati Bengals' replacement for Joe Burrow, ranks second with eight picks. Flacco, the Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa and the Jacksonville Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence also rank among the league-leaders in interceptions.

Geno Smith

Smith has had a brutal stretch to begin 2025 after joining the Raiders in the offseason. The former Seattle Seahawks starter, always known as a gunslinger, has already put up nine interceptions in five games after Sunday's loss to the Colts.

The Raiders are just 1-4 this season so far, and Smith has totaled six touchdown passes. Six of Smith's nine interceptions have come over just two games: Week 2 against the Chargers (3) and Week 4 against the Chicago Bears (3).

Calls for Kenny Pickett, who Las Vegas acquired before the 2025 season, to start are increasing. The longer Smith's turnover struggles continue, the likelier Pete Carroll will be to bench him.

Jake Browning

Browning was thrust into the Bengals' QB1 job after Joe Burrow's early injury, but he hasn't found much success in that role.

In just four games, Browning has eight picks, including three against the Jaguars in Week 2 and three more against the Lions in Week 5.

Joe Flacco

Flacco has already lost his starting job in Cleveland. He was never likely to make it through 2025 as the Browns' QB1, but it took just four games for Kevin Stefanski to give Gabriel the ball as his veteran dealt with turnover issues.

Flacco threw six interceptions vs. two touchdown passes over four games, including two turnovers against the Bengals and the Lions.

Tua Tagovailoa

The Dolphins have started 1-4 this season, partially due to Tagovailoa's struggles. He has had some stronger games, like a three-touchdown performances against the Panthers, but Tagovailoa has also thrown four picks.

Two of those came in Week 1 against the Colts.

Trevor Lawrence

Unlike some of the other quarterbacks on the interceptions leaderboard, Lawrence's team has succeeded despite his struggles. Jacksonville is 3-1 through four games, yet Lawrence has a completion percentage below 60 percent and four picks.

Lawrence threw two interceptions against the Bengals in Week 2.

Brock Purdy

Purdy has missed three games already for the 49ers, dealing with a toe injury. However, when he has played, he also hasn't been at his best.

In both of his games in 2025 so far, Purdy has two interceptions.

Bo Nix

Nix, like Lawrence, has managed to lead his team to wins despite a few turnovers. The Denver Broncos are now 3-2, including a win over the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles.

Still, Nix has thrown four interceptions over five games.

Justin Herbert

Herbert got off to a hot start in 2025, but has since thrown an interception in three-straight games, including two against the Giants in Week 4. 

Los Angeles was starting to look like an early AFC West contender during Herbert's strong start, but his interceptions have been an issue as the Chargers have lost two straight games.

Bryce Young 

Young threw 19 interceptions over his first two NFL seasons, and they've started to haunt him again in 2025. He threw two picks in Week 1, then his latest came in Week 5 against the Dolphins.
