Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are two of the leaders of this new quarterback era, having won four MVP awards between them.

However, whenever the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens meet on the field, the matchup hasn’t always been even. Mahomes and his Chiefs have generally held the advantage over Jackson and Baltimore, whether in the regular season or the postseason.

When Mahomes and Jackson face each other, it highlights their star power in an NFL full of stars. They are two of only four players to win two MVPs before turning 28, and each has broken countless records early in their careers.

Here’s a breakdown of how Jackson and Mahomes have fared against each other.

Week 14, 2018 (Chiefs 27-24)

Jackson and Mahomes met for the first time in 2018, Mahomes’ first year as a starter and Jackson’s rookie season. Jackson had taken over for Joe Flacco, and Mahomes was in the midst of his first MVP season for the Chiefs.

The game between two eventual playoff teams was close, with Kansas City pulling it out at home. Mahomes put the team on his back, throwing for 377 yards and two touchdowns, while Jackson had just 147 passing yards as he was still adjusting to the NFL.

Week 3, 2019 (Chiefs 33-Ravens 28)

The following year, Jackson and Mahomes met again in Kansas City, this time with Jackson beginning his first MVP season. However, Mahomes once again came out on top, earning his second win against Jackson.

Mahomes totaled 374 passing yards and three touchdowns without turning the ball over, as the Chiefs built a big early lead. Jackson tried to mount a comeback but was unsuccessful, as Baltimore suffered its first loss of the season — one of only three on the year.

Week 3, 2020 (Chiefs 34-20)

Once again, these two teams met in Week 3, this time as Baltimore hosted in the 2020 season. Mahomes was at his best for the third-straight game against Baltimore, totaling 385 passing yards and four touchdowns as Kansas City came out on top.

Jackson wasn't quite as sharp, failing to surpass 100 yards passing, as Baltimore was down 17 points at halftime. Kansas City had a 17-point lead at halftime and controlled the game, forcing Baltimore to play from behind.

Week 2, 2021 (Ravens 36-35)

In another early-season matchup, Jackson finally got on the board against Mahomes with a one-point win at home in Baltimore. The Chiefs quarterback was still great, throwing for 343 yards and three touchdowns while Kansas City led for most of the game.

However, Jackson and the Ravens completed a late-game comeback, erasing multiple 11-point deficits as Jackson scored two late rushing touchdowns. Overall, he finished with 239 passing yards, 107 rushing yards, and three total touchdowns to beat the Chiefs for the first time.

Week 1, 2024 (Chiefs 27-20)

After a two-year regular-season hiatus, Jackson and Mahomes met to open the 2024 season, following a Chiefs win over the Ravens in the previous season’s AFC Championship Game. While Kansas City took an early lead, the game came down to the final seconds, with Baltimore losing when Isaiah Likely’s toe was out of the end zone on the final play.

Mahomes had just 291 passing yards and one touchdown, a career-low for him against the Ravens in the regular season. Jackson, meanwhile, had 273 passing yards and 122 rushing yards in his best performance against Kansas City.

Playoffs

AFC Championship, 2024 (Chiefs 17-10)

Jackson and Mahomes have met just once in the playoffs, an AFC Championship matchup hosted by the Ravens in 2024. Baltimore held the top seed in the AFC that year, while the Chiefs were the No. 3 seed, coming off a big road win against the Buffalo Bills the night before.

In the game, Baltimore had its best performance against Mahomes, holding the quarterback to 241 passing yards and one touchdown. However, Kansas City rode two early scores to victory, as Jackson's 272 passing yards and 54 rushing yards weren’t enough to overcome two turnovers.
